Como is a Ghost theme built for travel and destination publications. It pairs a photo-first hero slider with tag-driven destination sections and a built-in Visitor Information layout for each post.
Key Features
- Full-width hero slider with autoplay toggle — controlled via Hero autoplay
- Two tag-driven homepage sections (grid + carousel) — controlled via Tag section slug and Tag section slug 2
- Pre-styled content cards — Callout, Toggle, Gallery, Bookmark, Audio, and CTA/Product cards look polished directly from the editor, no extra setup
- Testimonial marquee with 3 configurable reviews — controlled via Review quote 1/2/3, Review source 1/2/3, and Reviewers subtitle
- Members-only lock icon, can be toggled off via Show lock icon
- Customizable footer — background color and text style (light/dark) via Footer bg color and Footer text style, plus editable newsletter text via Footer newsletter text and Footer subscribe button text
- Two-level dropdown navigation via a label prefix system (#, -, +, %, @, $) — no code required
Installation
- Download the theme
.zipfile. - In Ghost Admin, go to Settings → Theme.
- Under Active theme, click Change theme.
- Click Upload theme and select the
.zipfile. - Once it's validated, click Activate.
If the upload is rejected, the most common cause is the zip containing a wrapper folder instead of the theme files at the top level.
Quick Start Checklist
- Set your logo and accent color under Settings → Design & branding → Brand.
- Fill in Tag section slug under Settings → Design & branding → Theme — required, or the first homepage section stays hidden.
- (Optional) Fill in Tag section slug 2 for the second, carousel-style section.
- Set your 3 testimonials under Review quote 1/2/3 and Review source 1/2/3.
- Set up your Navigation — see Navigation for the dropdown syntax.
- Choose a Pagination style to match how you want older posts to load.
- Create the Documentation page (this one) if you'd like it linked in your menu — see Optional Page.
Updating the Theme
All of your settings (tag slugs, reviews, footer text, navigation) are stored in Ghost's database — not in the theme files. This means you can safely upload a new version of the theme .zip at any time without losing your configuration. Always back up any direct code edits you've made before updating, since those will be overwritten.
Troubleshooting / FAQ
Q: My homepage tag section isn't showing up
A: Confirm Tag section slug is filled in with the tag's slug, not its display name (e.g. asia, not "Asia"), and that at least one published post uses that tag.
Q: My navigation isn't showing a dropdown
A: Double-check the Label field uses the exact prefix symbols (#, -, +, %, @, $) with no extra space, and that the group ends with a + (or $) item.
Q: The lock icon isn't appearing on a members-only post
A: Check that Show lock icon is enabled, and that the post's visibility is actually set to members-only or paid.
Q: My testimonial section looks empty
A: All three Review quote fields need text — an empty quote will still reserve its slot but show no content.
Theme Settings
Found under Settings → Design and branding, split into two tabs: Brand and Theme.
Brand Tab
Accent color — the primary brand color used for buttons, links, and highlights.
Publication icon — a small square icon (favicon), minimum 60×60px.
Publication logo — the main logo shown in the site header.
Publication cover — a large banner image used on some index pages.
Heading font — the typeface used for titles and headings.
Body font — the typeface used for paragraph text.

Theme Tab — Site Wide
Hero autoplay — toggle. When on, the homepage hero slider advances automatically.

Show lock icon — toggle. Shows or hides the lock badge on members-only or paid post cards.

Index section title — text. Heading shown above the main post grid (default: Latest Posts).

Search placeholder text — text. Placeholder shown inside the header's search box (default: Search destinations).

Pagination Style
Controls how visitors load more posts on index, tag, and author pages.

Available options:
Infinite Scroll – Automatically loads more posts as visitors scroll down.
Load More – Displays a Load More button to load additional posts. (default)
Pagination – Displays page numbers for easy navigation between pages.
Homepage Tag Sections
Tag section slug (required) — the tag slug, not the display name (e.g. asia, not "Asia"). Populates the first homepage section. Hidden if left empty or if no posts use that tag.

Tag section slug 2 — same idea, powers the second homepage section, displayed as a horizontal carousel with next/prev arrows.

Reviews and Testimonials
Review quote 1, 2, 3 — the testimonial text for each of the three marquee slots.
Review source 1, 2, 3 — name and country of the reviewer, e.g. ATLAS, Indonesia.

Reviewers subtitle — short line displayed above the testimonial marquee.

Footer Style
Footer bg color — sets the footer's background color.
Footer text style — choose Dark text (for light backgrounds) or Light text (for dark backgrounds).
Footer newsletter text — heading text above the newsletter signup form in the footer.
Footer subscribe button text — label on the footer's subscribe button.

Navigation
Set up navigation under Settings → Navigation. Como supports multi-level dropdown menus using a prefix system in the Label field — no code required.
Primary Navigation
Special prefixes:
# – Starts a dropdown (e.g. #Destinations).
- – A regular sub-item nested under the current # parent.
+ – The last sub-item in the group; required to close the dropdown.
% – Starts a "More" dropdown, shown as a three-dot icon.
@ – A regular sub-item nested under the current % parent.
$ – The last sub-item in that group; required to close it.
Example:

Secondary Navigation (Footer)
# – Starts a new footer column, titled with this label.
(no prefix) – A link placed inside the nearest preceding # column.
A footer column closes itself automatically once the next # appears — no closing prefix needed.

Optional Page
Como doesn't ship with dedicated directory templates — every page (including this Documentation page) is created the same way:
Go to Ghost Admin → Pages. Click New page. Enter a title and write your content using the Ghost editor. Configure page settings in the right sidebar (URL, tags, access, excerpt, author). Click Publish to make the page live.

Comments
Como supports Ghost's native commenting system. Enable it under Settings → Membership, then choose who can comment (all members, paid members, or off).
